Aid in the diagnosis of atypical pneumonia (caused by bacteria), which is a cause of community-acquired pneumonia. Usually occurs in younger age groups and may be associated with neurological and systemic (e.g. rashes) symptoms. Primary infection usually occurs in children and reinfection in adults is common.
