also known as Cashew nut IgG4 Ab in Serum
This IgE antibody allergy test uses a blood sample to determine if you are allergic to cashew nuts. Cashew nuts are edible and popular snacks. They are also used as an ingredient in many processed foods such as nut "butters," bakery and confectionery products, pesto and as a component of oriental foods. The oily substance in the shells must be removed before the nut is processed for consumption. Unaided shelling of the nuts can easily produce painful dermatitis (similar to poison-ivy rashes). Cashew allergies are usually severe when they do occur, and can even be life-threatening. When the allergy is present, a reaction is often immediate after coming into contact with the cashew. A reaction is not often delayed, but at the very least, symptoms will appear within a few hours. Cashew allergy symptoms include: Difficulty swallowingTrouble breathingCongestionStomach painVomiting/diarrheaItchiness around the mouthIn extreme cases, anaphylaxis can occur, which is considered a medical emergency. If you have trouble breathing or remaining conscious, seek medical attention immediately. Looking for a panel that encompasses more allergy testing? Try our Basic Food Allergy Test Panel
